Spicy Red Ale Barbecue Sauce

Beer is just the begin­ning. At Lone Tree we are ded­i­cat­ed, and con­sumed by, crafts of all dis­ci­plines (espe­cial­ly those that involve beer). When we aren’t busy brew­ing we trade slav­ing over a hot brew ket­tle with hot stove to cook up some great craft-cen­tric recipes. Our favorite recipes are those that make killer pair­ings with Lone Tree Beers or, bet­ter yet, those that cook with beer. Our Spicy Red Ale Bar­be­cue Sauce is one of our essen­tial recipes.

Using our clas­sic Irish Red Ale we’ve devel­oped a clas­sic bar­beque sauce that is per­fect for lath­er­ing on ribs, wings, sand­wich­es— you name it. The Irish Re Ale in with gives the bar­beque sauce a rich roasty addi­tion to the worces­ter­shire sauce and dijon mus­tard and a sweet malt char­ac­ter to bal­ance out the spicy cayenne and black pep­per. 

This recipe is as easy as it is deli­cious, just fol­low these sim­ple steps and get cook­ing with Lone Tree beer.


  • 1 table­spoon olive oil
  • 1⁄3 cup chopped onion
  • 2 table­spoons minced gar­lic
  • 2 table­spoons Worces­ter­shire sauce
  • 2 cups ketchup 
  • 2 table­spoons Dijon mus­tard
  • 1 table­spoon molasses
  • 1 table­spoon brown sug­ar
  • 1 table­spoon papri­ka pow­der 
  • ½ table­spoon cayenne pow­der 
  • ½ tea­spoon salt
  • ½ tea­spoon black pep­per
  • hot sauce to taste
  • 1 cup Lone Tree Red Ale 


Whisk all ingre­di­ents in a sauce pan and turn heat to medi­um, bring­ing sauce to a slow boil. Reduce heat and sim­mer for 20 min­utes. Blend as desired for smooth­ness. Smoth­er on short ribs and par­ty down.
